Privacy Policy
How Video Transcript Free handles your files and data.
Last updated: August 7, 2026
Video Transcript Free ("we", "the site") converts audio and video files into text entirely inside your browser. This policy explains what that means for your data.
Your files never leave your device
When you select an audio or video file, it is read and processed locally in your browser using WebAssembly and, where available, your device's GPU (WebGPU). We do not upload your file to any server, and we have no way to access its contents. If a file cannot be read directly by your browser, it is converted locally using FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly — this conversion also happens entirely on your device.
The transcription model
To convert speech to text, your browser downloads a Whisper speech-recognition model from Hugging Face's public model hub the first time you use it. The model runs locally after that; no audio data is sent anywhere during transcription. Your browser caches the downloaded model so future visits don't need to re-download it. You can clear this cache at any time through your browser's site data settings.
What we do collect
We use privacy-conscious analytics to understand how many people use the site and whether transcription succeeds or fails. This tells us things like: file format, file duration, whether WebGPU was available, and whether a transcription completed or failed. We do not collect file names, file contents, transcribed text, or any other content derived from your files.
Contact form
If you use the contact form, the message and the email address you provide are sent to our support inbox so we can reply to you. We don't use this information for anything else.
PodText
Video Transcript Free is built by the team behind PodText, a cloud transcription service for longer files or higher-accuracy needs. If you choose to visit PodText from a link on this site, we only pass along a generic referral tag — never your file, its content, or anything else about your session.
